Bulky pickup in Akron
Mattresses, furniture, and many appliances — city bulk or drop-off, not the regular cart.
Official source:
Akron mattresss go weekly on normal trash day — place 3 ft from cart; no preschedule for furniture/mattresses. Large bag/box volumes need Special Bulk Volume Pickup (3/year; call 311 ≥1 business day ahead). Keep HHW for ReWorks.
Household hazardous waste — used oil, paint, propane, batteries, and chemicals.
Official source:
Take motor oil to Summit County ReWorks HHW at 1201 Graham Road, Stow — seasonal Thursdays 2–7 pm (confirm 2026 season dates). Oil/solvent paint at HHW; latex must be dried for trash. Keep chemicals off bulk piles.
TVs, computers, and electronics. Usually banned from trash and the blue bin.
Official source:
Akron TVs go on weekly large-item pickup. Other electronics including e waste mixed use Summit County ReWorks Recycling Days at 1201 Graham Road, Stow (seasonal event dates). Wipe data.
Construction debris, concrete, and remodel waste — transfer station or roll-off.
Official source:
Concrete, drywall, roofing, and demolition debris are not accepted in Akron carts. Limited bundled wood/brush may go curbside; larger C&D needs private hauler. Route paint to ReWorks HHW.
Cart recycling, store film take-back, and foam rules — not a second bulky program.
Official source:
Akron recycling carts do not want expanded polystyrene (EPS). White block foam, packing peanuts, and food trays are different streams. Grocery film/bag bins are not a foam drop-off. City of Akron — Trash and Recycling is the official Akron program we verified — if that page only mentions plastic bags or film, treat block foam and food trays as bagged garbage unless it names a foam densifier. Clean peanuts may be reused at a shipper; starch peanuts are not EPS.
