Evansville mattresss go out through free heavy trash pickup, available as often as every two weeks year-round to residents who pay for trash service on their water bill. Schedule at 800-886-3345 or through the utility's online form and set the item out the day before. Apartments, mobile home communities, businesses, and county residents are not eligible, and pickups pause during fall leaf collection from November through mid-December.

Vanderburgh County runs Tox-Away Days twice a year for motor oil — spring and fall Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon in the former Roberts Stadium parking lot, entering on E. Franklin Street behind Swonder Ice Arena. There is no permanent HHW facility. Events accept motor oil, oil-based paint, automotive fluids and batteries, solvents, gasoline, antifreeze, pesticides, pool chemicals, fluorescent bulbs, propane tanks, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers, but not appliances, electronics, or latex paint. Air-dry latex paint or solidify it with kitty litter and put it in the regular trash. Call 812-436-7800 for details.

Events run twice a year — watch the city Solid Waste District page for the current dates. Wipe your data before drop-off.
