Bulky pickup in El Cajon
Mattresses, furniture, and many appliances — city bulk or drop-off, not the regular cart.
Official source:
El Cajon residents get four free EDCO bulky collections per year for mattresss — schedule each one with EDCO rather than setting items out unannounced. Keep chemicals off the pile; they go to the Saturday HHW facility by appointment.
Household hazardous waste — used oil, paint, propane, batteries, and chemicals.
Official source:
Take motor oil to the City of El Cajon household hazardous waste collection facility, 950 O'Connor Street. It is free for El Cajon residents but runs Saturdays only, 10am–1pm, and by appointment — book a timeslot before you drive over. Unincorporated county residents use a different facility on the same street, so confirm which one applies to you.
TVs, computers, and electronics. Usually banned from trash and the blue bin.
Official source:
California bans e-waste from the trash. El Cajon residents drop e waste mixed, including CRTs, free at the city HHW collection facility, 950 O'Connor Street, by appointment on Saturdays. Book first and wipe personal data before drop-off.
Construction debris, concrete, and remodel waste — transfer station or roll-off.
Official source:
Construction debris is not covered by the four free bulky collections. Order an EDCO debris bin or hire a C&D hauler. Route paint to the Saturday HHW appointment.
Cart recycling, store film take-back, and foam rules — not a second bulky program.
Official source:
El Cajon recycling carts do not want expanded polystyrene (EPS). White block foam, packing peanuts, and food trays are different streams. Grocery film/bag bins are not a foam drop-off. City of El Cajon — Recycling FAQ is the official El Cajon program we verified — if that page only mentions plastic bags or film, treat block foam and food trays as bagged garbage unless it names a foam densifier. Clean peanuts may be reused at a shipper; starch peanuts are not EPS.
