Bulky pickup in Abilene
Mattresses, furniture, and many appliances — city bulk or drop-off, not the regular cart.
Official source:
Abilene mattresss go out for the city's brush and bulky pickup at the curb or alley, or you can self-haul to the Citizens Collection Station at 2149 Sandy Street. Keep tires, paint, batteries, and chemicals out of the container — those must go to 2209 Oak Street.
Household hazardous waste — used oil, paint, propane, batteries, and chemicals.
Official source:
Take motor oil to the Environmental Recycling Center at 2209 Oak Street, Abilene's permanent household hazardous waste site — open Tuesday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. It accepts paints, pesticides, pool chemicals, automotive fluids, batteries, and solvents, but not ammunition, pressurized gas cylinders, radioactive material, unlabeled containers, or business waste. Containers larger than one gallon need prior arrangement.
TVs, computers, and electronics. Usually banned from trash and the blue bin.
Official source:
Abilene electronics including e waste mixed are accepted at the Citizens Collection Station at 2149 Sandy Street along with bulky waste. Wipe your data before drop-off and keep electronics out of the residential barrel.
Construction debris, concrete, and remodel waste — transfer station or roll-off.
Official source:
Abilene ordinance makes short-term construction debris the only exception to city-exclusive collection, so remodel and demolition waste goes to a private C&D hauler or the landfill with tipping fees. Route paint and chemicals to 2209 Oak Street.
Yard waste, food scraps, and cooking oil where the city has a separate stream.
Official source:
Abilene yard waste goes out with brush collection or can be dropped at 2149 Sandy Street — hired lawn crews must use the drop-off site rather than your barrel.
Cart recycling, store film take-back, and foam rules — not a second bulky program.
Official source:
Abilene recycling carts do not want expanded polystyrene (EPS). White block foam, packing peanuts, and food trays are different streams. Grocery film/bag bins are not a foam drop-off. City of Abilene — Solid Waste & Recycling is the official Abilene program we verified — if that page only mentions plastic bags or film, treat block foam and food trays as bagged garbage unless it names a foam densifier. Clean peanuts may be reused at a shipper; starch peanuts are not EPS.
